Five Minute Friday--Grasp

Can I really grasp the height, depth, width, breadth of God's love for me?

With this finite mind of mine, can I really grasp it?

Just when I seem to grab a hold of it, it seems I have lost my grasp and I am back to wanting, yearning, trying to earn something that is already mine--His wonderful love.

Can I grasp that despite my MANY faults and sins, Jesus still holds me and His grasp on me is tighter than ever?  And not because of my performance but because of Who He is.

Today, I will delight in knowing that His grasp is my security, my strength, my portion.

What I'm Warming & A Special Offer

With the weather dropping last week and lots of rainy/cloudy days, I decided that I should start having the house smelling like fall.

I am warming Oats & Honey.  It's another discontinued one:(

Let me start off by saying that my teen was the one who picked this one out (without smelling it).  When we received it and opened it up to smell, it got a big thumbs down:(  None of us liked it.  But my daughter convinced me to give it a try (although she will deny it if asked).

And I am glad I did.  It is nice and subtle, not over powering at all.  I think it's a perfect transition scent from summer to fall when you are not ready to go full fall yet and break out the Pumpkin Marshmallow (which surprisingly smells good but I have not warmed).

What I am looking forward to warming is September's Scent of the Month--Caramel Pear Crisp, which is 10% off this month.  Sooo good. The strongest scents in this one are carmel and crisp with the pear scent giving it a fresh smell.

Also, starting today through December 31, 2012, Scentsy Buddies will be on a BOGO sale (while supplies last and some exclusions do apply).   You get to pick the Scent Pak for one Buddy and receive a mystery Scent Pak will be sent for the other Buddy:).

This is a good time to stock for presents for birthdays and baby showers which I like to do.  My husband will usually tell me that so and so co-worker just had a baby, so this would eliminate me having to head out to do some last minute shopping.

Five Minute Friday--Wide

Wide.  The first imagery is wide hips although I have no clue why.  As a woman, I think we are usually  associating measurements or words that measure with ourselves and seeing how we measure up.

And I do think about how I measure up.  Are my convictions strong?  Am I standing firm?  Where do I really stand?

For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

How do I measure up?  In my quest to enter through the narrow gate, have a decided to broaden my horizons a bit too much?  Have I become lax in my commitment to Christ?  In desiring to please many, have I displeased the only One whose standard I should seek?

I definitely don't want to enter through the wide gate and walk on the broad road.  Keep me walking on the narrow path even with my wide hips.

I have been warming Cherry Vanilla, which was discontinued in August:(  But I am hoping it will make a come back in January with Bring Back My Bar:)

Factored In

She asks where I am in my Bible reading?

I answer.

She breathes a sigh of relief and says, "Now I don't feel so bad."

So, I replied to her, "You see how many days you are behind, but I see how many grace days I have."

My daughter and I are reading the Bible in 180 days.  I have fallen behind in my reading and so has she.  Just not as far as I have.

So she's relieved she's not where I am.

When I made up the Bible reading plan for us, I factored in grace days, because we all need them. Things arise in our days which our out of our control (not His) and so we don't get to start on the laundry, finish homeschool, whip up a four course meal, and in my case finish my reading assignment.

But I have a choice.  I can pout and become discouraged about what didn't get done OR I can see the grace Jesus has already factored in my day-my life!

Which will you chose?

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV

Five Minute Friday--Focus

Sometimes it's hard to focus on the tasks at hand.  So I try to juggle as much as I can without letting anyone or anything fall.

But am I really focused?

My desire is not to loose focus.  For my eyes to remain permanently on Jesus NO MATTER WHAT.  Because at the end of the day, the juggling must come to an end.  And what will really remain is whether or not my focus what placed correctly on HIM or other things.

To follow Jesus you MUST be focused.  Look what happened to Peter as he walked on the water?  Loosing focus almost caused him to drown.  But he was wise enough to call on Jesus to help him.

If we've lost focused let us do the same.  Let us call on Jesus for help, place and keep our focus back on HIM.

A Letter to Me

Dear Me at 15,

If I could instill anything in you, it would be--YOU ARE LOVED!

And not some little boy likes me love, but REALLY LOVED!

Loved dearly, jealousy, passionately, everlastingly, steadfastly by JESUS!

This year will probably be the hardest year of your life.  You will have to face so many things you could have never imagined.

Up to now you have already developed a mask--you are the baby in the family with stellar grades.  You are liked in school and are sociable although you would only really consider two or three people "friends."

Your relationships depend on which mask you are wearing.  You have specific friends for almost every activity.  And although you never get caught up in the "bad" crowd, you go close enough to the fire so as to not get burned.  Life as you know it is changing and too fast for you to even adjust.  In the midst of the chaos, you will keep your calm through control.

This will begin such a hard road for you in years to come.

You test limits, cross boundaries, and set unrealistic goals you will actually achieve just to prove that YOU are in the driver's seat--not circumstances and certainly NO ONE ELSE.

It's hard to imagine someone loving you in the midst of all this pain and emptiness, isn't it?

But believe me, HE does.

I tell you without a doubt in my heart, that every thing you are going through now, HE will work it out for your good.  Despite the pain of rejection and abandonment, the fear of failure, and insecurities, HE will use it to show you HIS LOVE-one that never fails, never leaves nor forsakes, in whom you will ALWAYS have the victory, and in Whose eyes you are beautifully and wonderfully made!

HE'S going to grab a hold of you just when you have achieved all of your heart's desires.  In man's eyes, you made it.  But the emptiness inside you is swallowing you alive.

HIS love will captivate you.  And although you struggle to receive it because it is so foreign to you, please do RECEIVE it.  And ENJOY it.

I warn you from now--you won't be in control.  And in reality, you don't want to be.  JESUS will be control.  Loosing control of your life in order to live a surrendered one to Jesus will be the best!

Because HIS thoughts for you are so much higher than your own and HIS plans for you are for a hope and a future because you are REALLY LOVED!

Jesus prayed:

I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world , and I am coming to you.  Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name--the name you gave me--so that they may be one as we are one.  John 17:11 NIV

I love the security that the name of Jesus has.

No onslaught from the devil or the world can harm us.  We are protected by the name of Jesus!

Jesus goes on to pray in the following verse:

While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me.  John 17:12a NIV

And indeed, He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us.  He is with us always.  So His protection is with us and we are kept safe by His Name-Jesus.

I wrote this in the margin of the Bible study we are doing as a family:

There may not be accurate/precise words to say in a moment of crisis or bewilderment, BUT there is a Name--JESUS!

Five-Minute Friday--Graceful

Not exactly what I would consider myself.  You know the soft movements, the gentle responses.

I am more like arms flying in the air as I passionately speak on a topic.

But I am learning that there's more to graceful than movements and tones.

There's the grace shown to others and myself when we are behaving anything but graceful.  There's a not paying evil for evil that can be extended to others as well as to yourself.  You don't have to beat yourself up because you messed up.  Be graceful.

Being graceful is about being a gift-giver.  No one (including yourself) doesn't have to earn it.  But they do have to receive it in order to enjoy it.  I like giving gifts and receiving them too!

So I will remember to be graceful.

September feels like January over here.  Not that we follow the back-to-school calendar, but the end of summer and beginning of fall (my favorite season) gets me in the mood to be more organized.  Back in June, I began the 4 weeks to a More Organized Home Series and challenged myself to do it every month.  But summer came up and that didn't work out.  So with summer almost behind me, I am attempting it once again.  I tweaked her version to fit my to-do list.  Crystal also has another series about mornings which I have not tackled completely, yet.

I will be starting September 4 since Monday was a holiday:)
