Woundless

This morning as I read the Word, I came across Daniel 6:23, "23 The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God."

This verse jumped out at me.  How much pain could I have avoided had I just trusted in the Lord?  The answer is plenty.  And although I can doing nothing about the past (God has and is healing me), I can certainly take this as a preventive word for my life.  As long as I trust in the Lord, I will be woundless.

Daniel was thrown into the den and not eaten, and if that's not amazing enough, the Bible let us know (v. 23), he didn't suffer any wounds.  Nothing caused a wound in Daniel--not the fall, not the wait, not the rescue.  Daniel remained whole, healthy, and alive because his trust was in God.

We too can be like Daniel.  No matter what is happening around us, in the midst of us, in us, if we trust in the Lord, we will be woundless.

Wise Words

These "Watch Your Words" have made me more aware of the words that come out of my mouth which truly reveal the condition of my heart.  So along with avoiding perverse and corrupt speech and speaking nourishing words, this week's focus is on wise words.  This definitely hits home with me as I continue to pray to God to give me wisdom when I speak.  It's not enough to have intelligence and all the facts, we all need to be able to present information in a wise manner.

The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom,
but a perverse tongue will be cut out.
Proverbs 10:31

Clear Instructions

As wives we are called to be wise edifiers of the home (Proverbs 14:1).  That may seem a daunting task, but God would never ask us to do something and not provide clear instructions as to how to get it done.

How do we edify our homes?  The answer comes in 1 Peter 3:1-6.

1Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 3Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. 4Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. 5For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, 6like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

1.  submission-yielding to my husband's God-given authority as the head of the home believing that he has my best interest at heart because he fears and is submitted to God
2.  lives in obedience to God's Word
3.  walks in integrity and is respectful
4. focused on the internal and eternal
5.  gentle and quiet spirit
6.  lives a life of faith

Think about what the opposite looks like:
1.  rebellious- defying or resisting my husband's God-given authority as the head of the home believing he is self-seeking and disobedient to God
2.  lives in disobedience to God's Word (remember partial obedience is disobedience)
3.  lies and is disrespectful
4.  focused on the external and temporary
5.  is harsh, cruel, loud, and disruptive
6.  operates in fear

Which list do you resemble most?

Nourishing Words

Some time last week, I was trying to decide whether or not to buy something.  When I asked for my husband's advice, he started speaking and I just knew in my spirit it was going to be one of those moments when wisdom is about to be poured out.  I wanted to savor every word that came out of his mouth, because I knew the Lord was about to speak to me.  The words nourished my soul and brought satisfaction to my spirit concerning the decision.
Do your words have that effect?  I want mine to.

So this week on "Watch Your Words," we're focusing on Proverbs 10:21:

The lips of the righteous nourish many,
but fools die for lack of judgment.

Look for opportunities to nourish others with God's Word and take advantage of those opportunities the Lord has already set up for you to do so.

Staying Pure

Yesterday's marriage class dealt with sexuality purity within the marriage.  We discussed the consequences of sexual infidelity as well as the blessings of sexual purity.  Randy Alcorn's article points out the consequences very clearly.  And although, I definitely believe we should count the cost of sin regarding ALL sin, this article helps to point out the specific consequences of marital infidelity.

Veggie Challenge Results

Although, I didn't introduce the family to a new veggie (I have to finish the spinach first), I did manage to use it in French Fry Casserole.  Please make sure to revisit the recipe as I have added new photos and ingredients!

I am interested to know how it went with others so let me know and if you have recipes, be sure to share them.

Watch your Words

How many times have you said something to only later regret it?  Me too.

Praise the Lord that He has left His Word to help us with taming our tongue.  Since I enjoy Proverbs, let's start there.  This week let's work on:

Put away perversity from your mouth;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

Proverbs 4:24

Remember that perverse talk is not only racy comments and corrupt speech is not limited to foul language.  If you catch yourself talking negatively about someone or something, check yourself.  Remember Luke 6:45 states, "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks."  Your words may be saying much more than you think.
